This website explores the impact of urban renewal in New York City through two infrastructure projects: the Cross-Bronx Expressway and the proposed Lower Manhattan Expressway. Both projects were led by Robert Moses and were part of a larger vision to modernize New York City through highways. However, the outcomes of the projects differed. The Cross-Bronx Expressway was constructed, displacing residents and permanently altering the Bronx, while the Lower Manhattan Expressway was never realized. 

The Cross-Bronx Expressway and proposed Lower Manhattan Expressway reveal the impact political and social power a community has to resist urban renewal. This website will use diagrams, photographs, memorandums, reports, and news articles to demonstrate the differing outcomes and perspectives of the affected communities. It will examine how access to political power shaped these outcomes.
